Caring for your Silk Long Underwear

Layering with Silk

Helpful hints to stay warm while wearing silk!

1. Always wear your silk long underwear next to your skin. Tops and pants should be form fitting with no air gaps between the garment and your skin. This allows the silk fibers to pull the moisture away from your body and reflects heat back to your skin.

2. Your second layer should be absorbent material like cotton. This provides a layer that moisture can be stored away from your skin while keeping the silk layer dry.

3. In harsher, cold weather conditions a third layer can be added. The most common third layer is wool. Wool is a great insulator because of its ability to hold large amounts of air (and we all know how warm those sheep stay!). More modern materials (like Polartec) are good substitutes for wool as a third layer. In fact, Polartec works better than wool on damp, rainy days.

4. A fourth layer can be added in extreme cold conditions. This fourth layer should consist of a wind/moisture resistant material such as nylon pants or jackets.

Good luck with your next outdoor adventure! If you have any questions on how to stay warm... give us a call - we'd be glad to help.
